Description: | “A frame of honey” cake
We have a frame of real honey in a wooden frame- from a previous entry in a Honey Show- which I used as inspiration to decorate my cake. I have made a rectangular tray bake lemon cake with butter, flour, free range eggs, honey and sugar and sandwiched with homemade lemon and lime curd, also made with our honey. I flat iced with fondant and decorated with a honey comb pattern to represent the honey comb. This was painted with a very weak coffee mixture to add a little colour. The wooden frame is also made with fondant and painted with layers of a stronger coffee solution. Coffee rather than food colouring was used as coffee plants need pollinators to help with the fertilisation. The gold balls represent pollen and the silver represents eggs. The larvae are made from little crescents of fondant. Two bees are busy in the hive. We cut and ate this this afternoon at our ‘Wednesday Tea’ at church and the ladies all agreed it was delicious. |
