General Information on the Asian hornet

• A review of the success of the UK strategy to tackle the invasive insect Vespa velutina nigrithorax, the “Asian hornet”. This is an excellent, informative report produced in 2023 by the University of Exeter. It provides the background to and a good summary of the approach taken by the GB authorities to manage incursions of the hornet.
• Asian Hornet Genetics Update from 2023. A summary of the work done and results achieved by FERA on genetic analysis of lone hornets and nest populations. Analysis can give an insight to origin (local or foreign), viability of colonies and whether a nest was producing sexuals prior to destruction. Worth a look.
