Our Honey Show and Festival was held at the Forest Centre, Marston Moretaine on Sunday 22nd September.
Sue (Honey Show Secretary) and Dawn (Festival organiser) thank those who entered the Show and those who helped with the Festival. These events are only successful when members give up their time to help and participate, and you all did us proud on the day. There were 262 entries from 36 entrants for the Honey Show – the highest level of participation in recent memory!
Sue acknowledges that there wasn’t any time for entrants and the public to view the Honey Show exhibits before the trophy presentations. We were restricted by the sheer number of entries to be judged (100 more than the 2023 show!) and our access times to the room at the Forest Centre. Addressing this issue is top of the list of ‘essentials’ for the 2025 show.
Some feedback from judges and the Honey Show Secretary:
- the judges were very pleased to see so many entries from our county (quite a lot more than some much ‘bigger’ counties) and were impressed by the enthusiasm shown by the entrants.
- more wax entries and a higher quality of wax filtering should be encouraged
- allow sufficient settling time for honey – many entries were too fresh and hence too bubbly (warm if necessary)
- please submit entry forms early – a lot of entry forms were submitted very late (even after the deadline!) with consequent load on organisers and undermining of planning (finding adequate space for staging of exhibits, ensuring sufficient judges to complete judging in the available time…)
Results:
Congratulations to all those achieving an award.
